Engines and Performance Upgrades
Every Chevy Colorado will find its power through the TurboMax™ engine. This 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine will get you up to speed in Livingston with 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. When it's time to tailgate the Jets game, you'll have up to 7,700 pounds of towing power. Here are the available upgrades:
- 2-Inch Factory-Installed Lift (Trail Boss)
- Four Selectable Drive Modes and Off-Road Performance Display (Trail Boss)
- 18-inch Wheels with 32-inch All-Terrain Tires (Z71)
- Four Selectable Drive Modes and Off-Road Performance Display (Z71)
- 35-Inch OB MT Tires (ZR2)
- 12.2-Inch Ground Clerance (ZR2)
- 3-Inch Factory-Installed Lift with High Performance Suspension (ZR2)
- Multimatic® DSSV Dampers (ZR2)
The Toyota Tacoma doubles the engine options for its lineup. The first is a standard 2.4-liter turbocharged engine with 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. The other is a more powerful 2.4-liter i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain with 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. You will have a few more ponies under the hood, but less towing power than the Chevy Colorado, with just 6,500 pounds. Here are the available upgrades:
- Electronically Controlled Rear Locking Differential
- TRD Sport-Tuned Suspension
- Bilstein Monotube Shocks
- 2.5-inch Forged Monotube Position-Sensitive Shocks
- 2.5-inch Fox Internal Bypass QS3 Shocks
- 33-Inch Rugged-Terrain Tires, 18-Inch Wheels
- High-Clearance Front Bumper, Recovery Hooks
The Ford Ranger has a trio of engines available for one of its four trim levels. The standard engine is a 2.3-liter EcoBoost® I-4 with 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost® will take things up a few notches with 315 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. However, the 3.0-liter engine is exclusive to the Raptor trim, and it roars out 405 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. When properly equipped, the Ford Ranger comes close to the Chevy Colorado with a max towing capacity of 7,500 pounds. Here are the available upgrades:
- Off-Road Tuned Shocks
- Seven Drive Modes
- FOX Racing Shocks
- Watts-Link Rear Suspension
- Ford Trail Control
- Steel Bash Plate
- Electronic-Locking Rear Differential

Choose your trim level and enjoy your features. Each model has a specific task. For example, the Work Truck (WT) offers vinyl upholstery for easy cleanup after off-roading or spills. Comfort and relaxation go up from there. You can opt for Evotex or perforated leather upholstery, along with heated and ventilated front seats, driver's memory, and up to 45.17/34.7 inches of front and rear legroom.
The Toyota Tacoma layers its entry-level cabin with fabric-trimmed seats and 6-way manual adjustable driver and front passenger seats. If drivers in Newark want more, they will look a few trims higher to find SofTex®-trimmed seats, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, and heated/ventilated seats.
The Ford Ranger adds cloth upholstery to front and rear seats. Trim-specific upgrades include heated ActiveX-trimmed front seats with driver memory, ambient lighting, and textured materials. The highest trim level, the Raptor, brings heated leather-trimmed front seats with driver memory and a rear outboard leather-trimmed bench seat.
Safety and Technology
Safety and Technology
No matter which trim level you choose, you will find a winning tag team combination of an 11.3-inch diagonal center touchscreen and an 11-inch digital driver information center. When you need to make phone calls or stay in sync with your busy schedule in Summit, NJ, standard Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone compatibility, along with Bluetooth tech, make everything easier. Here are the standard driver's assistance features:
- Forward Collision Alert
- Automatic Emergency Braking
- Front Pedestrian Braking
- Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
- Following Distance Indicator
- IntelliBeam® Auto High Beam
The Toyota Tacoma paves the way for smartphone compatibility via Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ for every trim level. The standard 8-inch infotainment screen is as good as it gets for lower trim levels, while the available 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 14-inch audio multimedia display unlock a better view. Here are the standard driver's assistance features:
- Pre-Collision with Pedestrian Detection
- Lane Tracing Assist
- Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
- Lane Departure Alert with Steering Asist
- Automatic High Beams
- Road Sign Assist
The Ford Ranger offers a standard 10-inch center display and 8-inch cluster display for the entry-level XL. While that setup might work for some, it will leave many yearning for bigger and better. The good news is that the Ford Ranger offers it. The bad news is that you'll have to climb nearly to the top of the expensive trim ladder to unlock the 12-inch center display and 12-inch cluster display. All models come standard with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. Here are the standard safety features:
- Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking
- Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert
- Lane-Keeping System
- Auto High-Beam Headlamps
- Rear View Camera
